Experience

  • Software Engineer Patientco - Atlanta, GA - Dec 2018 to Present

As part of the Integrations team at Patientco I am responsible for writing the code to ingest data from large healthcare systems, and as part of the oncall rotation I help keep the lights running. As both a healthcare vendor and payment processor we’re responsible for maintaining the security of sensitive information and high availability of our services.

  • Built scalable ETL pipeline using Airflow and Kubernetes
  • Helped build datalake using Amazon Athena to enable consolidating data across health systems
  • Developed configuration based ETL tools to allow implementation consultants to build pipelines without writing code
  • Responsible for maintaining availability as part of oncall rotation
  • Founder & Software Engineer hamil.io - Atlanta, GA - Jun 2015 to Dec 2018

I started hamil.io to help build better navigation for cyclists. I wanted to give people not just the fastest route, but the safest. I built tools that allow you to find routes that do more than just avoid hills, you can avoid headwinds using up to date forecast data, or avoid potentially dangerous routes using the largest available database of bicycle accidents.

  • Developed machine learning model to predict a street’s safety for cyclists given sparse accident data
  • Built frontend for navigation using leaflet.js and React
  • Worked with county, city, and state governments to collate the largest open source database of bicycle accidents
  • Extensive experience with GIS tools including PostGIS, QGIS, and OSRM
  • Software Engineer Ellislab, Inc - Beaverton, OR - Aug 2013 to Nov 2015

At Ellislab I helped build and maintain ExpressionEngine, a widely used Content Management System. I was responsible for building new features, maintaining the open source CodeIgniter framework, and helping to modernize ExpressionEngine through a major refactor of its internal framework.

  • Built a robust blog/forum spam filter, improving accuracy over Akismet by ~10%
  • Built static analyzer for automatic generation of documentation
  • Responsible for overall application architecture
  • Extensive experience collaborating with a distributed team
